My name is Solange Garcia and I'm from the beautiful island of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. I am an arts administrator and communications professional with a performing arts background who graduated from Boston University's College of Communication and Boston University Metropolitan College, respectively.
I'm a blogger, health advocate, and public speaker as well... but more on that later.

Fresh Pair of Eyes is a GOOD NEWS aggregator celebrating the USVI & Caribbean.

It is your NEW #1 source for positive stories and highlights centered around the resilient people of the US Virgin Islands, the Caribbean, and beyond. A carefree remedy to the inundation of negativity produced by mainstream media.
It is also a place to take account of my journey of self-rediscovery. Reconnecting with my roots, sharing what I find, and reveling in the pride. I cover everything from arts and culture to history and heritage, and I strive to be authentic. This is my celebration of all things Caribbean, especially of my home, St. Croix, USVI. 

 Why are you doing this?
When I was at my lowest, many people who "showed up" for me were my family and friends from the US Virgin Islands. Because of that support, I was able to overcome hideous and scary medical obstacles. Obstacles most don’t come back from. No one showed they cared more than my family, friends, and the people of St. Croix.
With this second lease on life, I look at the world through a fresh pair of eyes and take no moment for granted. I thank you and celebrate you from the bottom of my heart. I want to compile a place where we can go to remind ourselves that St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John and the rest of the Caribbean are remarkable islands filled with remarkable people who have remarkable stories to tell. We have so much to be proud of. We are smart, creative, relentless people. We are warriors and survivors. If one thing is for certain, I am proud to be from St. Croix, USVI. Share in this pride with me!

What’s the point?
To provide respite during uncertain times as a gift for supporting me through the toughest battles of my life. Respite in the forms of new, engaging content like storytelling, cultural and historical highlights, videos, music, FB Live events, and more.

I stuck out in the little, suburban Ohio city where my family had moved to so my step-father could attend graduate school. I was the "new girl with the weird name."
